14/05/2007 Fin de La Bola - The Hot River Band - 25/05/2007"Fin de La Bola" with The Hot River Band
Friday 25th of May at 10pm - Meson Bar L'Assut Bolulla
It is our great pleasure to announce our next concert for friends and the people of Bolulla, to take place on Friday the 25th of May 2007 at 10pm in Bar Meson L'Assut, located in the centre of Bolulla.
It is an even greater pleasure to announce that we have been able to get Bernie Price's Hot River Band back to play for us once more. Our last concert at the end of March with Bernie and the guys was a great success and was enjoyed by all, and we had several comments afterward by many persons (of all nationalities) on how much they enjoyed the music and the atmosphere of the concert (over 90 in attendance from 15 different countries).
Since the last concert, Bernie and the guys have been working hard playing several nights a week all over the area, so we are extremely fortunate to secure them for this evening, and we anticipate an extremely busy and superb night's entertainment at Bar L'Assut.
Not only has the band been working hard, also the people of Bolulla have been working extremely hard for the last 8 weeks on the annual Nispero harvest, which is now nearing completion. This involves long hard days of manual work without much opportunity for them to have any spare time for social events.....so we are pleasd to have arranged and timed this concert in order for them to enjoy a fantastic evening of world class entertainment with family & friends, in an excellent atmosphere, in the middle of the village we all love and are very proud of.
Hence the title of this concert...."Fin de La Bola" (End of the Balls) which is a local term for the Nispero fruit (La Bola).
There is a slight change to the band line-up for this gig, unfortunately Alvaro Diez Fernandez cannot be with us this evening as he has a medical appointment, however, in his place we have the services of a superb, internationally famous, Italian drummer called Grazy Coral who has played worldwide with many bands.
Anyone reading this and that knows the music scene in this area of Spain, will know Grazy and that he is one of the top musicians here in the Costa Blanca and is extremely well known for his talent. We welcome Grazy to his first concert in Bolulla.
Band Line-up
Bernie Price - Mississippi, USA (Vocals, Guitar, Saxophone, Trumpet & Harmonica)
Ivan Jonas - Alta, Norway (Vocals & Guitar)
Kristian Fredriksen - Kristiansund, Norway (Double Bass)
Grazy Coral - Venice, Italy (Drums)
This is going to be our finest concert held so far, and we promise a fantastic evening of top class music for your entertainment...so please tell your friends and come along and join us, supporting the BeBopBolulla concept which is to promote cross cultural integration through providing quality musical & cultural events in our community.
See you there!

03/04/2007 Review of Hot River Band Gig - 30th March 2007Hot River Band ignites Bolulla!
Although we anticipated a fairly busy evening at last friday's gig, we were absolutely knocked out by the large number of people that came along to see this talented band of musicians play their first concert for "BeBopBolulla" in Meson Bar L'Assut, and also by the outstanding reaction they received from this audience.
The band started off around 10:30pm with a powerful beginning to their first set (Steve Miller's The Joker) before settling down to play several mellow and soulful covers, steadily increasing their tempo and building the atmosphere through their versatile musicianship. They then played 3 further sets of country, soul, blues and rock'n'roll covers throughout the evening that captivated the audience and had them all singing, grooving, and dancing along before finishing off with a powerful exit (Rolling Stones Medley) around 2am.
Bernie Price (Mississippi, USA) on vocals, lead guitar, saxophone & harmonica, and Ivan Jonas (Norway) on vocals & acoustic rhythm guitar, fronted the band and knew exactly how to capture and please the audience by playing an awesome selection of self interpreted covers, along with their expressive vocals, intricate guitar work & wailing sax, as well as boundless natural charm.
Not least, providing the solid platform for Bernie & Ivan to weave their magic upon, we had the tight, driving, bass and percussion powerhouse of Kristian Fredriksen (Norway) on upright bass, and Alvaro Diez-Fernandez (Spain) on drums, who gave us that rich, deep backing that had our fingers snapping and feet tapping all evening.
Our thanks also to Mr Peter Green (guest musician) for a rendition of "Shake, Rattle & Roll" that had the local ladies dancing (and swooning) and also to our impromptu guest vocalist "Ismael" from Bolulla that helped the boys out so well in Spanish on that classic Spanish song...."Bailar, Bailar"?....muchas gracias a ti!
The Hot River Band are seasoned, professional musicians that have been around for a long time and have played many gigs, for many people. I am proud to inform you that ALL the band members commented to me on just how much they enjoyed playing for us up here in the mountains, how well our concept is organised, and what a superb and musically appreciative audience you all were!!
This was our first concert for 2007, and we have come a long way since our first gigs in the Spring of 2006. Over 80 people were in attendance last Friday from 15 different countries i.e. Spain, UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Hungary & Morocco.
A personal thank you to all of you who attended not only from Bolulla, but from Tarbena also and further afield from other towns and villages within the Costa Blanca area.
And not least, my respect and heartfelt thanks go out to Paqui & Felipe, the owners of Meson Bar L'Assut, for their hosting, support, and belief in this concept, as well as the other local Spanish people of our village for their continuing acceptance and understanding of what we are attempting to provide for our community as residents and equals.
The mission of BeBopBolulla is a simple one....to help promote cross-cultural integration between the many different nationalities of people living in our immediate area, by providing regular, quality, and free musical events for all to enjoy regardless of age, colour, creed or nationality. The power and "passion" of music transcends all national and cultural boundaries, bringing people closer together.
The Hot River Band will be back in Bolulla for further concerts (next concert immediately after the Nispero harvest), and we are also currently planning additional concert events in the area, to include Tarbena.
Please continue to view this website for updated information on forthcoming events!
We thank you for coming along to watch and enjoy these events, and for your continued support for our non-profit making concept into the future.

16/03/2007 Next Concert - Bernie Price's "Hot River Band"The "Hot River Band" - Friday 30th March'07
Meson Bar L'Assut, Bolulla at 10pm - Free Entrance
It gives me great pleasure to announce the first of our 2007 concerts to be held shortly at the Meson Bar L'Assut in Bolulla (a big thankyou to Felipe y Paqui for agreeing to host this gig). BeBopBolulla music productions has been resting for the autumn/winter period and our aim for 2007 is to bring a selection of the best and varied musicians in the Costa Blanca area along to a series of free, regular, musical events in the Bolulla/Tarbena areas for your pleasure and entertainment, promoting cross cultural integration through a common love of music and ensuring everyone has fantastic and memorable evenings in our company.
Well...music doesn't get much better than this on the current gig circuit here...and we are privileged to have secured a superb 4 piece band of talented international musicians for your entertainment on the evening of Friday 30th of March, from the USA, Norway & Spain.
It is a rare occurrence that any pleasure could ever be derived by anyone as a result of a serious and lifechanging event such as "Hurricane Katrina" that wreaked devastation and misery on the Gulf Coast region of the USA in 2005. However, this tragic natural disaster has a direct connection to the formation of the "Hot River Band" who are making a significant impact on the local music scene in the CB area. Bernie Price (frontman) hails from Mississippi and is an extremely talented and experienced music professional who played all his life in the bars and house bands of the music clubs in the US Gulf Coast area, as well as touring throughout the southern states. During Hurricane Katrina, Bernie lost his home and possessions in the terrible events that destroyed vast areas of Gulfport & Biloxi, Mississippi (as well as the destruction to New Orleans and other towns on this coast). Having lost everything, and needing to start over, Bernie eventually decided to head to Europe, and due to family connections in the Alfaz/Albir area, he decided to settle here in Spain several months ago.
Not only a modest "down home style" southern gentleman....Bernie is also an incredibly versatile vocalist and musician, who seems to be able to pick up just about every kind of instrument and play it incredibly well. From lead guitar...harmonica....saxophone...keyboards... he makes it look easy and certainly captures your attention... therefore it wasn't too long before he connected with other equally talented musicians playing here...forming the "Hot River Band" that are captivating audiences at their regular gigs in the area with their very soulful blend of self-interpreted music covers combined with superb musicianship.
Bernie (on vocals, lead guitar, saxophone & harmonica) is more than ably assisted by Ivan Jonas (another seasoned touring professional on vocals and electric acoustic rhythm guitar, hailing from the Arctic circle in Norway) and not least, completing this ensemble, we have the dynamic "backbone" of the band comprising of duo Kristian Fredriksen (Kristiansund, Norway) on upright bass and Alvaro Diez Fernandez (Bilbao, Spain) on drums...musically joined at the hip and who easily provide the rich deep bass & beat backing that get your body parts moving in unison.
So, kick back...drink a beer or three...close your eyes...and imagine yourself in a smoky music club in the deep south...you will find yourself singing along with the band...and before the night is over...grabbing a partner and heading for the dance floor to groove along with the band, who believe me, will be enjoying the gig as much as you are!
Tell your friends, arrange your evening, come and support our concept, and have a great time....we can't do this without you! Drinks are cheap, food is available and tables can be reserved in advance by contacting Paqui at the bar.
See you there!
